Her name was RuthWe were both about 10. We met while on holiday in Abersoch. I was staying in my aunty's caravan and she was staying at her grandparents' one a few feet away. She wore an outfit made from old curtains (very "Sound of Music".) We hung around together all holiday and cried when it was time to go home. For the next couple of years we kept bumping into each other when we went back there on holiday. I asked her to marry me (I was 11) and she said yes. We lost touch after about three years and I haven't seen her since. My aunty is still in touch with her parents though, and the last I heard was that Ruth had married a doctor. Me? I'd waited for her...
