Broke the bank at Las Vegas, or won a packet of smokes for getting your tinkle out in class? Outrageous, heroic or plain stupid bets.

Roulette
I went to Las Vegas with my wife, and discovered her at a roulette table that she'd been at for a while.
When I pointed out that it wasn't a great idea to put equal amounts of money on black and red each time, she flew into a rage and said "well at least I haven't lost as much as you, you smug twat".
Never a truer word.

Not a bad strategy
As long as she's betting equal amounts on each spin and 0 or 00 (being an American wheel it has both I think) don't come up more than twice every 38 spins, she'd probably get a better return than the Bank of England base rate right now *
* Maths may be incorrect

No return.
The red/black thing would cancel out and whenever 0/00 lands she'd lose something.

my mate did that
on a roulette machine in our pub. It might be worth pointing out before I go further that he is an almost perfect doppelganger of Napoleon Dynamite in both looks and brains.
After watching his genuine excitement at constantly getting his pound back after putting 50p on re and 50p on black about 10 times, I pointed out his error. It took several explanations and a demonstration, but at last I saw a twinkle in his eye as he realised what I meant. He turned back to the machine and inserted another pound. I waited..... would he choose red? Black? Would he hedge his bets or lump it all on one number? He reached out a hand and tapped at the buttons......
25p red...........
25p black............
25p odd............
25p even.
Dear God.
