I feel I'll be posting a lot in this oneFirst maths lesson at secondary school we were introduced to two pieces of technology that we were assured would be necessary in our later lives. The Comptometer (a mechanical adding machine) and the slide rule.
When I finally did my GCE maths I was allowed a calcuator - which cost the equivalent of 1/4 of a skilled man's wages at the time, for which I carried THREE spare PP9 batteries, just in case.
