All credit to you sirbut it sadly is unlikely to have had much effect. To paraphrase someone whom I can't quite remember "You cannot reason someone out of a position that they have not reached through reason".
Although, maybe, if you can force them to acknowledge the unreasonablness of their position, they will abandon it and start again...
