How nerdy are you?This week Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons, died. A whole generation of pasty dice-obsessed nerds owes him big time. Me included.
So, in his honour, how nerdy were you? Are you still sunlight-averse? What are the sad little things you do that nobody else understands?
As an example, a B3ta regular who shall remain nameless told us, "I spent an entire school summer holiday getting my BBC Model B computer to produce filthy stories from an extensive database of names, nouns, adjectives, stock phrases and deviant sexual practices. It revolutionised the porn magazine dirty letter writing industry for ever.

GQI've been trying to come up with a formula for calculating one's Geek Quotient - or "GQ". It's proving difficult though. It all started when someone made the observation that you were officially a geek if your IQ was greater than your weight in pounds. I think that this is unfair as it gives a female advantage, women generally weighing less than men. So I need to come up with a formula that takes gender into account, as well as taking into account other important factors such as the frizziness of one's hair (difficult to quantify), the strength of one's asthma medication (2000mg a day baby!), severity of myopia, and the length of time spent on the internet in any given 24-hour period.
And by the way, this project started waaaaaaay before this QOTW.

Could also take into account:
Percentage of annual income spent on gadgets/sci-fi memorabilia.
Trouser length : leg length ratio.
Time living with parents.

The official definition doesn't work.When I graduated high school I was most definitely a geek, but I don't believe my IQ is over 160. And now that I've gained a lot of weight but my IQ hasn't increased,I would be even less a geek by that definition- but as an engineer, a LOTR fan, a sci-fi fan and the owner of two cloaks, I'm definitely a geek.
Got to work on that formula a bit.

But do you have to be a computer or gadget nut to be a geek?What about the book people? And the overly-organized people? And the obscure language people? And the ones who have been taught to dress and act 'normal'?
