This is a question How nerdy are you?

This week Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons, died. A whole generation of pasty dice-obsessed nerds owes him big time. Me included.

So, in his honour, how nerdy were you? Are you still sunlight-averse? What are the sad little things you do that nobody else understands?

As an example, a B3ta regular who shall remain nameless told us, "I spent an entire school summer holiday getting my BBC Model B computer to produce filthy stories from an extensive database of names, nouns, adjectives, stock phrases and deviant sexual practices. It revolutionised the porn magazine dirty letter writing industry for ever.

Revel in your own nerdiness.

I was just informed
that in April I'll be going to NYC to see some of the equipment my company makes being assembled and installed. I'm quite excited- it's one thing to see the drawings of the stuff and read the official press releases about it, and quite another to see it actually in action.

Did I mention that this is equipment for a sewage treatment plant?

Yes, it's true- I'm excited to be going to see a NYC sewer.

in the engineering industry over here
we call them Shit Farms, not treatment plants

Actually
I'm far more worried about encountering a sharp edge in there. That's one place where you really don't want to get cut.

Yeah, that could be nasty ....
although frequent exposure probably lends some kind of immunity. My friend's dad worked in the sewers and never caught so much as a cold in all his days working there. The down side is his sense of smell just sort of switched off.

I'm very impressed with the term
"Shit Farm".

A friend of mine and I were nearly arrested under the anti-terrorism law at a shit farm a couple of weeks ago.

We were taking photos of it, for a project, as it looked vaguely sci-fi, and the police turned up.

The fact that we had a couple of ladders in the car didn't help, or the range of telephoto lenses for the DLSR.

To clarify, we weren't even trespassing, we were taking photos from the road.
