It's unusualfor anyone to be able to pull off an accent without a local being able to spot it. Most non-Scots I've heard doing a 'Scottish' accent (inasmuch as that exists, in the same way as there is no single 'English' accent) sound ridiculous.
The fact that they try to say use some hackneyed phrases like "Och aye, the noo" or "Hoots, mon" usually gives it away too!

I've been told by my Scottish brother in law that I do a better Scottish accent than him.His parents and friend that I have met use all the hackneyed phrases leading me to believe that Scottish people really do talk like that.
