This is a question Political Correctness Gone Mad

Freddy Woo writes: "I once worked on an animation to help highlight the issues homeless people face in winter. The client was happy with the work, then a note came back that the ethnic mix of the characters were wrong. These were cartoon characters. They weren't meant to be ethnically anything, but we were forced to make one of them brown, at the cost of about 10k to the charity. This is how your donations are spent. Wisely as you can see."

How has PC affected you? (Please add your own tales - not five-year-old news stories cut-and-pasted from other websites)

Being a gayer...
...I come into contact with PC-ness a lot. My opinion? FUCK THAT. As long as there's no venom in what a person is saying to me then there's no problem. Oh, only other gayers and very very close friends can call me a faggot though :)

That small reservation aside, I find the extent to which PC-ness has been taken, or rather applying it in discourse, gives off an air of disingenuity and frankly I have more respect for myself and other human beings than to be so nauseatingly fawning, and to be on the receiving end of it can be intensely uncomfortable.

I say again to PC-ness - FUCK THAT - GROW A SPINE AND SAY WHAT YOU MEAN. As long as you don't get offensive, people will respect you more for it - I know I would. It's not about words, it's about attitudes.

A friend of mine
happens to be of the lesbian persuasion. Another friend, when seeing her at work, shouts across the grounds (in front of the public) "Alright you lezzer!"

I have some very nice friends.

Heheheheh...
...ah the British way of endearing oneself to others via jovial insults - I love it :D

This same crowd of friends
refer to me as the crack whore...

Now I neither like crack nor am a whore...but I do like high heeled sandals...and happened to wear them one day with skinny legged trousers...

Does it annoy anyone else...
...that people use the word "gay" as a noun? As in, calling someone "a gay" rather than "a gay person".

Or for that matter, "blacks" or "whites" (doesn't work in singular does it? That make is a black, and that man is a white). Someone who can't see must be a blind.

Or am I being PC?

@ Musuko...
...not at all, though maybe a little anal. Not in a gay way though :D

I know what you mean though too - for my part, it doesn't bother me, unless there's venom in it as I've said. If I know well enough who I am, then it's all good ;)

truer words were never spoken
And that what it should be about. If there is no venom in a what someone says, why should it matter?

I feel bad for when I have kids... the word will be a very sad place indeed.
