...but asking for sexual orientation/race/creed on job application forms is always accompanied by words to the effect of "so that we can ensure we have a good mix".
Does that mean that they recruit to quotas?
"Sorry sir, you were the best candidate but you're Indian and we were looking for Jamaicans today..."

As far as I know here in Ireland it is illegal to even ask that on an application form.
Also the equal status act also applies to positive racism (Ie, even though you are less qualified I am hiring you because you are x and the government said we need more xs)
