Sales is absolutely necessary, and hard work, and to be really truly good at it you need to have a soul bypass.

The real twats are the directors who sack all the good sales people and farm everything out to a hive of minimum-wage call-centre drones who get told they work in sales when all they do is read aloud from a script that appears on a computer screen in front of them, and dare not deviate from it lest their supervisor listen in. "Recorded for training purposes" is code for "recorded as evidence for the disciplinary hearing every time anyone ever deviates from the script".

Scripts are for actors. Real selling is a performance art, for sure, but it's not simply reading from a script.
