A long long time ago I had one of these jobs. I sold 'lucky leprachauns'on the street, to traffic, door to door etc.
The money raised went to job creation. Each leprachaun sold for £1, I got 10p of that.

One night while pissed, my boss told me how much he got from proceeds of each one his team sold. 30p. Then he told me the charity got 50p (this went into buying more leperachauns - less than 1p each, costs of running the office etc.,wages, director's'wages')

So I said to him. 10p for me, 30p for you, and 50p for the charity. How much goes towards job creation - 10p?

He said "yeah, 10p goes towards subsidised work spaces for a few lucky entrepreneurs, but think about it, you've got a job, I've got a job, the people in the office have a job, the guy whose idea this has been has a job, it makes sense"

I have an inkling that the same pyrimidal breakdown occurs for most of these organisations. In the case of job creation it's almost worthwhile. But if 10p in the pound goes towards cancer research, or Dog's homes or epilepsy research, then it's pure bunk.
