My aunt gained the childhood nickname of 'Nig' because she used to tan quite brown in summer.
Her siblings (all aged over 55) still refer to her by this name. As an utterly guileless term of endearment.
There are large swathes of the population here who seem to exist in an eternal stasis in 1958.
