This is a question Rubbish Towns

I once went to Basildon. It was closed, I got chased by a bunch of knuckle-dragged yobs until I was lost in a maze of concrete alleyways and got food poisoning off pie. Tell us about the awful places you've visited or have your home.

Thanks to SpankyHanky for the suggestion

Greenock is nowhere near as bad as Port Glasgow
I was born and raised in Port Glasgow and cant believe you would even utter them in the same breath, Greenock is an amazing place to live in comparison.

Mind you i am at the opposite end of the ned infestation so only need to deal with the occasional boy racer rather than trying to dodge the wandering hoardes standing at the cash machine outside the co-op.

Dunno about that...

...the line is starting to blur between the two.

Lived in Greencock all my years until last year, still work in the Port... and the only difference these days seems to be that Greenock has more traffic lights. Kinda surprised that the Port Tesco didn't become the Ned Mecca that everyone seemed to suspect.

Although, Port Glasgow is by far much more minging, as noted by the clean bit made when some "young rapscallions" chucked a couple of bottles of washing-up liquid in the new fountain last year.

Closed the main road for just under an hour as well.... bubbles everywhere. Surreal in a way.

Meh.

Hello fellow Inverclyders
I knew there would be a few on here. Well i left the Port back in 1994, but had hated it for many years before. Yes, The Port is definitely worse than Greenock, but it is still a fucking hell hole, lets face it. OK, it has 'the west end', but once your past the Splash, your more or less in Gourock anyway.

I lived all over the cancer hole..Moray Rd, Kelburn, Mansion Av, Clune Park St, even did a few years up The Gibby, which was a universe unto itself. I saw some sights up there i hope never to see again. Horrible.

Even passing through the Port in a car makes my hackles rise, it is not so bad now the road virtually bypasses it, in fact it's a great thing. The best thing about the Port was Louis chippy, great fish and excellent gravy..But apart from that, shoot the fucking lot of them. I have never encountered small mindedness on the scale that The Port has to offer, cancer is too good for the cunts....and the reason for so much hate is that the majority of them are happy, they don't see what the problem is. Personally i think there is something in the ground itself, something that seeps up and infects everybody...the place is cursed

Congrats on escaping but theres been a few changes since '94
Moray road is now one of the nicest areas you could ever hope to end up, its now just a bunch of lovely old people (including my gran)

All the troublemakers were either thrown in jail or moved to kelpburn and most of the council houses knocked down, their currently doing the same with gibshill, hopefully the plan is to round them all into one area and declare it a no mans land.

Also sorry to say but louis is now utter shit, try the chicken from quincys in greenock instead.

oh dear
poor louis, it's that Marco, the hairy faced rapist....as for greenock i was a die hard l'arlechinno fan...the chips gravy and onions were amazing, and the cheeseburgers were fantastic. I have been down far too many times sisnce 1994, but i am planning on avoiding it for the forseeable future.

Ahhh Louis chippy!
A chip roll an' gravy after a swim at the urine pool that was the Port Baths before catching the bus home. At least that was before the neds started taking over the wee 'boogie buses' and terrorising everyone who had the gall to want to get home.

I left the pit in 1995 and have never looked back. I prepared my Aussie husband as to the horrors of the town before we went back in 2005 for a visit but strangely he said it was a beautiful place. I guess you have to have lived there to understand that the best thing about the place is the road out.
