even closerIt's worse than you say.. Newcastle - Sunderland is just over 10 miles. I'm from shitty Billingham, and when at school, a kid joined as he had moved from Hartlepool. it was like he was from Mars. Different accent entirely, different dialect actually as loads of words we didn't know.
I'ts 4 miles away FFS..I though it odd when I moved to the London at 18 and realised that from Watford to Bournemouth everyone speaks pretty much the same.
