ShopliftingWhen I was young and impressionable and on holiday in France, I followed some friends into a sweet shop and we each stole something. I was so mortified by this, I returned them.
My lack of French hampered this somewhat - they had no idea why the small English boy wanted to add some chews to the open box, and saw it as an attempt by a nasty foreigner oik to contaminate their stock. Not my best day.

No wonder I had a hard time at schoolIt was 1993, I was 15 and I was in my school tutor room waiting for lunchtime to end. The hard kids were boasting about how one of them had swiped a Nike Air trainer from a sports shop in town. Not a pair of trainers mind you, just the one on top of the box for display. Without thinking it through I turned to them and said, "You know, shoplifting raises the price of goods for the rest of us"...
Looking back on it, i'm amazed I got out of that place alive.
