This is a question Slang Survey

What new bit of language are you hearing at the moment? We want to hear words and phrases, with definitions and where it's being used. We're interested in marketing speak, stuff from kids in playgrounds etc.

rowing slang
sorry - archaic sport but it does have its gems.

'Having one's arse handed to you on a plate' - being severly beaten

'Beasted' - being severly beaten

'given a shooing' - being severly beaten

(all three of the above can also be used to describe a victory rather than a defeat)

'dirty protest' - venting ones displeasure at a stewards enquiry in the regatta toilets

'bum shoving' - engaging your legs in the drive phase of the stroke before connection.

'catching a crab' - failing to extracate your blade at the end of the stroke resulting in at best a

'boat stopper' or at worst, ejection from the boat.

'Hammersmith Mafia' - the amateur rowing association

'jurgen burger' - plate of food given to you by the gb squad coach

'killing a goose' - being given a win on a plate, on finals day at henley

'boff' - sex with a young lady eg - we boffed behind the scoreboard at the nat champs.

'blue tac' - the women that follow the oxford/cambridge boat race crews around at parties

'doing a 'rowett' - pulling a hideous beast in a kebab shop
