Before she went to bed
My Nan would cover the radio with a cloth as if it was a birdcage, so the radio people couldn't see when she got ready for bed. Not little people in the set itself, but she thought the broadcasters could see into her room through the radio.

thought it was rude to turn off the radio if the announcer was mid sentence.

Old people have funny ideas about technology, it's because of the war.
They had it drummed into them that they were being watched all the time, either by the government or enemy spies.

My mother used to believe that all phone calls were listened to in case of dishonesty or immorality. My brother used to swear and then suddenly cut off the call, and she thought for years that They had cut him off for bad language.

She also thought people could see her through her laptop screen. That may have been my fault though.

There was that one guy (lets call him Tom)
Who "very kindly" rigged up a set top box for his neighbours (a young couple) so they could have satellite TV in their bedroom too.

Only he had also rigged a camera in it. Whenever they moved it he would fuzz the signal they got so that he'd be called round to 'fix' it and he'd re-align it to observe the bed again.

It was in the news because when he was found out and done for peeping tommery or what not he could, in theory, have his tapes back. But the evidence apparently went astray at the station.
