Sandettie Light Vessel Automatic tells us: "My dad's friend told us there's no such thing as gravity - it's just the weight of air holding us down". Tell us of times you've been floored by abject stupidity. "Whenever I read the Daily Express" is not a valid answer.

We took time out to enjoy the delights of a curry in Wolverhampton, our walk took us past a dealership of an iconic ex-british (aren't they all) luxury and sports car manufacturer.
One our party commented "What's that on the bonnet of that car? is it a panther?"

Just on the off-chance, right, that you're not ... A panther is just a black big cat (technically a melanistic colour varient, if you really give a shit). Usually a jaguar. So, it's more a statement of fact than an act of stupidity.

there is indeed no easy way to tell if it's a panther or a normal jaguar.

...but they actually have a jaguar on their badge, not a puma. It was an ignorant journalist that called them The Pumas and no one corrected him, because everyone involved in rugby is very gentlemanly and polite. And they didn't realise either.

Touch of the Alan Davies in QI about it, genuine interesting fact tinged with an element of daftness

the manufacturer's name was in 6 foot high backlit chrome letters on the showroom, convieniently placed within a few degrees of elevation form the line of sight from the pavement to the car, so i would say it qualifies

Unless you honestly believe a lack of in-depth knowledge of the UK car industry in a "marques vs bonnet ornaments" sector actually does equate to an amazing degree of ignorance?
