Umm, crashing around in the dusty spare room that was the bulk of my education (you know, you don't go in there very often but you don't want to chuck anything out in case you need it one day), maybe you were living at altitude?
I half remember that at the lower atmospheric pressure up there, water boils at a bit below 100 degrees, so you'd need to boil an egg a bit longer to get the same effect as boiling for 3 minutes at or near sea level.
Either that or you just remembered wrong...
