With your "zoom" option,I used to sometimes have that too, I'd be idly thinking about something sometimes when sleepy, then an object would appear, and i'd magnify it in my mind, until I was close enough to see "atoms"; the image would split into lots of tiny dots.
Never really thought was weird, just... odd!
