Ghostly submarine
Well, maybe not but it is something I've got no explantion for. When I lived at home I had the only back bedroom. The house backs onto a very shallow, stinky river and over the river is a large 60s council estate.
Quite often, but with no obvious pattern, I would be woken up at night by a very odd sound. It was a repetitive noise best described as a blip followed by a hiss (Imagine the sound you get on films set on submarines which I think is supposed to represent depth measuring equipment.) It used to freak me out in the middle of the night as it sounded very close outside but I was too cowardly to look out the window. Never heard in during the day though.
My mother is, however, made of sterner stuff and has been out in the garden in the early hours of the morning and has also heard the noise. She could never work out where it was coming from either. My brother, who took over the room when I left home, still hears it. Neighbours have heard it too and are equally bemused. It has been going on for over twenty years now and none of us can come up with an explanation. The nearby factory I suspected was responsible has been
demolished but the noise still goes on.
If anyone has any idea I would love to hear it. I certainly don't think its supernatural in origin but it is unexplained and damn intriguing.

Yes
now this is a PROPER story of the unexplained, excellent. Now, should you ever find out the answer, be sure to tell me, this will be the kind of thing I remember in years to come and drive my carers up the wall with in the Alzheimer's ward.

Do you
get tree frogs in the south of England? As I remember it, it didn't sound natural but I'm not nature expert.
