I guess because /talk can move quite fast and it's a more relaxed posting style than IRC
plus it's on a website rather than everyone having to download an IRC client or whatever.

Maybe B3ta came about after they heyday of IRC or something or there was never a demand for it.

I used to do IRC in firefox
chatzilla or something. I could never get the hang of the fucking thing though. Either no-one was talking in the channel I was in or I'd get badgered for cybering. :/
