# He's not he's a hypocritical, evangelical prick.
My 5yo neice could tear up his argument with a simple 'How do you KNOW?' and phadumph! The claim that belief is ridiculous falls right over and lies there. I'll grant it's extremely lucrative, and taking money from idiots for preaching to the converted is obviously never a problem, but it's bollocks. Telling people to think for themselves and saying 'I don't know' is hardly ground-breaking stuff.

He's a preacher, and a cockhead for being so.

# There's a whole bunch of arguments why belief is ridiculous that he goes into
Not least being that there are around 7000 gods currently worshipped on planet Earth and not all of them can be right - taking into account historical gods and the chances of your belief being the correct one dwindle to nothing

He may be unpopular for saying it, but I'm extemely glad that someone has the guts to put their head above the parapet and shoot down some of the "religion deserves respect" bullshit

There's no "sitting one the fence" when it comes to religion.

I have no time for religion or the twats who follow it

only belief without evidence, which seems pretty sensible to me.

# Yes, but he's so annoyingly worthy and righteous that it seems only fair to point out to him that it's ALL a matter of belief
Militant/evangelical atheists piss me off even more than the religious. At least most - not all, I grant you - religionists are prepared to accept there are other belief systems, and generally just invite you to theirs, instead of slagging the others off*

*Right-wingers not included - but they're all arseholes, religious or no.

With perhaps a nod to Victor Strenger who came up with the masterful quote "Science flies you to the moon. Religion flies you into buildings."

# Mainstream science isnt a belief system in the religious sense.
Its 'belief' is based on observable and measurable evidence. Religious belief is generally based on superstition. The reason Dawkins appears righteous is because he's right.

# You are correct. It is all a matter of belief
And this is why it is perfectly fine for me to believe that black people are the reason the weather is terrible, it is my moral obligation to burn them, and that my breakfast toast is the re-incarnation of Jesus.

Oh, wait, you mean we should have _standards_? For our beliefs? STANDARDS? But that's... exactly the flipping point, idiot.

Actually... no, he addresses this pretty early on in most of his books, and is infact one of his points.
