In theory, nice.
In practice, dependent on a whole load of things.
Still, I could pass through on my way to Leeds, that'd be a nice excuse.
( , Sat 21 Jun 2008, 16:43, Reply)
it's probably best not to sign up. It appears 5 months warning isn't enough.
( , Tue 24 Jun 2008, 10:38, Reply)
tentatively count me in as it's near me mum's house.
Though I reserve the right to change my mind after the London bash in August...
:)

Manchester Centre, Stockport or Macclesfield.
They're all on the same train line nad each place has lots of pubs.
Feel free to suggest location.
( , Fri 20 Jun 2008, 15:21, Reply)
do you mean the train from London or the train from Leeds?
( , Fri 20 Jun 2008, 15:23, Reply)
whatever line that is.
I'm guessing Manchester is going to be eaier for you!
( , Fri 20 Jun 2008, 15:31, Reply)
Stockport and Macclesfield can be reached from Yorkshire with just one change at Manchester IIRC. And besides, I'm not sure yet if I'll be visiting Yorkshire too.
( , Fri 20 Jun 2008, 17:23, Reply)
I'll probably travel up on the Fridaya and spend the weekend with my family (other than those hours I spend with you lot, ofcourse)
( , Fri 20 Jun 2008, 17:08, Reply)
Was wondering how these things work? Is it a case of just turning up and going 'hello i lurk on B3ta also?
( , Mon 23 Jun 2008, 11:28, Reply)
and see whats happens from there.
( , Mon 23 Jun 2008, 13:35, Reply)
Sounds like a good plan!
Manchester sounds like the best idea though!

Don't worry, it's my first one too.
I think the key is guessing!
(Or hiding in the corner)
( , Wed 25 Jun 2008, 17:19, Reply)
of the old lurker and never been to a bash before either, although I could definitely do Manchester as I'm in Chester during termtime.
Should we all wear top hats and lurk near the bar so we know who are b3tans?
( , Tue 19 Aug 2008, 13:31, Reply)
The diversity at a bash tends to be quite big, IN MOST CASES.
( , Tue 9 Sep 2008, 9:50, Reply)
But Yates'? Sweet baby jesus and the orphans, lets do it somewhere cool! Suggestions Plz!
( , Mon 21 Jul 2008, 3:30, Reply)
Although I am not going anywhere NEAR a Yate's wine bar. I'm still getting the sawdust out of my shoes from the last time I went in one.
( , Sun 3 Aug 2008, 3:26, Reply)
They're now called "Blobshops", in an attempt to get away from the old image of morning drunks, shoplifted goods and casual pissed violence.
Shame really!

( , Wed 22 Oct 2008, 7:47, Reply)
I'm going to have to be tentative too I'm afraid, only cos I've got a few plans and not actually got anywhere to stay in manc, so would be training it home at some point
( , Tue 19 Aug 2008, 8:16, Reply)
Where are people coming from?
I know that spikeypickle and myself are heading from Macclesfield, but that's all.
Anyone else going to be heading from our direction?
p.s. Mike, are you driving up, or gonna get the train?
( , Tue 19 Aug 2008, 16:30, Reply)
If I can drag myself away from that bustling metropolis...

What about one of the pubs near to oxford road station?
( , Thu 4 Sep 2008, 14:40, Reply)
Being a big time lurker is acceptable then?
Also I would probably strike out as the youngest, being 18.
( , Thu 4 Sep 2008, 17:18, Reply)
Lurkers are welcome too, long as there's no commies *shakes fist*

(now) but I may be in Liverpool or somewhere else by then. Shall see.
Yates at Piccadily? Why not just eat our own heads? Theres a spoons just down the road, equally soulless but cheap.

also, might want to pop into the thirsty scholar near oxford road station, nice pub.
( , Mon 15 Sep 2008, 13:31, Reply)
How about the Salisbury on Oxford Road? Its by the arches at the bottom of the steps from Oxford Road Station.
( , Tue 16 Sep 2008, 12:20, Reply)
but if it's in Manchester I may pluck up the courage to come and meet some people off this here internet.
I may also coward out of it. I'm not sure of etiquette for it if you don't know anybody. Do you just turn up at the first pub and tell the barstaff "I'm looking for a bunch of wierdos from off the internet"?
( , Tue 16 Sep 2008, 23:19, Reply)
We turn up at the meeting place, and there seems to be some idea about wearing carnations?
Personally, I'm just going to let everyone know what I'm wearing in advance, and tell people to look for the one with the shaved head and piercings, I'll be arriving at the same time as him!
( , Wed 17 Sep 2008, 8:43, Reply)
First b3ta bash I went to was the Christmas gluwein meet in Manchester last year. I picked a group of likely-looing people at random and asked if they were b3tans. They were. And if they hadn't been? Well, I'd have moved on to the next group and not worried about it. After all, it's not as if I'd've made an arse of myself in front of friends...
Wearing a carnation has become something of a trope for some of the QoTW bashes. I might, if I remember, wear my b3ta t-shirt.
( , Wed 17 Sep 2008, 12:11, Reply)
I have just unlurked on off-topic and really fancy meeting some folks in the flesh. I find the idea a little scary though.
( , Wed 17 Sep 2008, 14:36, Reply)
BUT!
I've been to bashes since 2004 and have never felt scared once I got there, sometimes, and it is horrible to say, however you get stuck with someone boring, but hell I might be boring.
WHO KNOWS?
( , Wed 17 Sep 2008, 15:40, Reply)
very loudly. B3tans will say "LOLZORZ" and everyone else will say "WTF"
( , Fri 19 Sep 2008, 12:59, Reply)
and probably punches me in the mouth
( , Sun 21 Sep 2008, 22:16, Reply)
I am about to start a new job and have no idea what the chances of time off will be, but come hell or high water I am going to do my damnedest to get there.
EDIT: also, for those travelling norfwards, I live Cumbria-ish (on the borders of Cumbria, Lancashire and North Yorkshire) so feel free to drop in for a brew if you're passing.
( , Mon 22 Sep 2008, 13:01, Reply)
Careful what you wish for and all that... the job fell through so I AM still unemployed.
( , Fri 3 Oct 2008, 13:16, Reply)
But, Enzyme, there'll be 30 people. Well, 29 without you. Find a way to attend, you lummox!
( , Fri 26 Sep 2008, 15:37, Reply)
I'll actually be in manchester that weekend for work. Anyone recommend a cheapish hotel nearby.
( , Thu 25 Sep 2008, 17:44, Reply)
There are also a couple of very nice hostels in the Northern Quarter.
( , Fri 26 Sep 2008, 12:34, Reply)
I live in the Northern Quarter, that's only a short hop from the station and there are a dozen good places there. My vote would be Bar Fringe up on Swan Street, cuz they've got the nice yard out back. It'd only be three quid in a taxi from Piccadilly if you don't know the way, and people could share with other b3tans if they still wanted to congregate at Yates's first.
That's my two cents.
( , Fri 26 Sep 2008, 12:33, Reply)
But I'm only really saying that due to the proximity to the bus route back home (Northern Quarter requires a bit of a walk).
And I probably won't come anyway. I'm not sure what my original point was now. Oh yeah, Odder.
But NOT Yates'.
( , Tue 30 Sep 2008, 14:40, Reply)
I've only spoken to a few of you at this bash. I may have to talk to complete strangers. *shudders*
( , Wed 1 Oct 2008, 21:02, Reply)
I live around there, at that time.
I'll have to see how the monies are doing, but most likely it's a maybe.
( , Fri 3 Oct 2008, 10:25, Reply)
I will be wearing a hat made out of newspaper.
my righthand man, Agnostic AntiChrist, will be wearing upon his head a pair of purple pants.
I thinks it's definately about time that we came to a firm decision on choice of venue.
I think everyone should buy me beer as well coz I deserve it.
Actually, I won't be wearing a hat made of newspaper but I'll do my best to ensute that Agnostic AntiChrist wears purple pants on his head.
( , Mon 6 Oct 2008, 16:26, Reply)
No chance!
I will be more than likely wearing a rather loud hawaiian shirt, stood next to a bald mentalist, with a lip piercing, wearing glasses!
And I agree, we need to decide where to start!
( , Tue 7 Oct 2008, 13:29, Reply)
It's central, no dress code, and decent boozies.
( , Tue 7 Oct 2008, 18:10, Reply)
Although out-of-towners may be confuddled by the fact that Oxford Road station has two possible routes out of it, and the main one doesn't drop you by the Salisbury. ;) Although if you just walk around the corner, you're pretty much there, obviously.
( , Tue 14 Oct 2008, 11:58, Reply)
Well, we seem to be all agreed on The Salisbury, seems like a good plan.
The next thing to settle is what time we will be meeting?
( , Tue 14 Oct 2008, 13:37, Reply)
Bit of a bikery gaff, but that's probably cos it's across the road from Jilly's Rockworld. Or whatever it's called this week. Pubs and clubs around there tend to change their name on a regular basis.
( , Sat 18 Oct 2008, 19:20, Reply)
If people want to know which stranger to approach in the pub, stick something on the facebook discussion (unless you are a total luddite and find this sort of thing baffling)

National Express coach ststion and train stations all within walking distance of each other.
And within falling over distance from each other, come chucking out time.

i shall be waking up in london that morning, after a thing on friday night, and plan to do some culturing with a friend during the day there. but i'll be heading back up north at some point and may fancy taking a diversion to manchester if (a) i haven't set off too late, and (b) i don't feel like just going home and sleeping
how late do you forsee it going on? and where are you likely to move to later, as i don't think i'll make it for anything like 6pm?
( , Sun 26 Oct 2008, 22:42, Reply)
That spikeypickle has pulled out, and he's told me I'm to become the point of contact.
Oh dear.
I assume this means people who are going will GAZ/email/text me towards the date with a definite yes or no, and we'll know who is who!
( , Mon 27 Oct 2008, 8:28, Reply)
Suits me just fine!
Hehe.
T0ria has mentioned that supposedly the salisbury isn't quite as good as it used to be, so if we're agreed on meeting at 5pm, maybe we stay in there until 7?
If anyone is coming later, GAZ me, I'll send you my number, and you can just text on the day asking where we've ended up?
Or something like that
( , Mon 27 Oct 2008, 11:51, Reply)
the salisbury until abut six ish (meeting there) Then move to the nearest big pub,i reckon the sir abercrombie would be good, big and cheap.

who would like to car-share?
The last train back to Lancaster isn't very late so I'm pondering the possibility of driving instead.
But petrol costs more money than trains do :(
AND I don't know my way round Manchester in the slightest.
( , Tue 28 Oct 2008, 23:21, Reply)
you can't drink.
Well, OK - you can. And the motorways are more fun if you're corrugated.
( , Wed 29 Oct 2008, 9:41, Reply)
we're starting at 5pm so should be time to get plenty of beer under your hat.
You can get a free bus which goes between the stations. The Salisbury is right next to Oxford Road station. Gaz me if you need any more info
( , Wed 29 Oct 2008, 10:51, Reply)
I have to drive home from Lancaster... (I live about half an hour away from it)
The last train is at 8.10pm. It goes to Preston and then I'd have to get a bus... The last direct train (from Oxford Road) is 7.48pm. I've checked all stations.
( , Wed 29 Oct 2008, 12:31, Reply)
but as I'm unemployed and have less than no money I can't :(
I'm stretching my finances as it is, but determined not to miss this as it'll be the only chance I get to meet real life b3tans for a looong time.

Nice warm comfy car, no clockwatching or hanging about on draughty stations, cheaper than trains (if petrol money is split)... anyone?
EDIT: Wahey!!!!! Looks like a solution has presented itself, and a better one I can't imagine :) I shall be there, with bells and nobs on.

Some of you know I had to unexpectedly change my plans for the weekend. But thanks to that, now we have 50+ coupons for the Wetherspoon beer festival which entitle you to have a pint of real ale for £1.39.

If anyone requires information as to where we are, I've left my number in the facebook topic.
Otherwise, ask Enzyme, Warmfuzzyfeeling, Spikeypickle or plentyofants!

The first time I've managed to access B3ta in about 6 months (due to lack of interwebs and crappy work PC) and I see this! Wo0t!
I'll be there - I also have a small bedroom (1x double bed) which I'm willing for peeps to crash at as long as they aren't rapists. Firt pair of people to grab me on the night can have.
Also - this is my 1st bash and I'm a lurker so there should be a few of us there at least. - I'll be wearing my magical Trevor T-shirt for ease of recognition...
