This is a question Money-saving tips

I'm broke, you're broke, we're all broke. Even the smug guy on the balcony with the croissant hasn't got two AmEx gold cards to rub together these days. Tell everybody your schemes to save cash.

Buy a breadmaker
You'll wonder why you ever bought expensive, shop-made bread before. And don't get me started on sandwiches.
Then again, I'm on my third breadmaker now, those machines are expensive.
Hmmm, I may have to think this one through.

You've been unlucky
I've had mine 8 years now & it's still churning out 2-3 loaves a week. Not to mention pizzas, foccacia, rolls, cakes etc.

Yep
Depending on what goes wrong with them they can also be easy to fix: the fan belt on mine came loose so I just unscrewed the bottom and reset it*.

*yeah, I know: cool story, bro.

Living in the US
it's almost an essential. The crap they sell in supermarkets here struggles to even qualify as bread. I even managed to snag myself a girlfriend with the quality of my home made offerings.
On the longevity question, what I do is to drip a little bit of olive oil on the drive shaft before fitting the paddle. The bearing seems to last a lot longer if you do this. It also makes the paddle much easier to remove after the final beat down, meaning you don't get a big hole in your bread.
