Frig
DLA (disability money people) say I don't need it, which I am going to CONTEST!

Been off with AIDSflu and now I have to go back to lectures now with a horrible cough and my antibiotics just so they believe me!

What are you up to?
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:07, archived)
What don't you need?
I'm working. Well, I'm waiting to be given something to do.

Edit: Ah I see.
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:08, archived)
why are you contesting?
what do you need the money for?
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:08, archived)
Taxis (nearly everywhere)
Jon's petrol money (as he takes me everywhere else). I can't really travel/go places on my own because my deafness leaves me in danger. Common problem.
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:09, archived)
like where?

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:10, archived)
Uni, work (it's not means tested), shopping, appointments etc

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:10, archived)
well..how does your disability prevent you going by bus?

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:13, archived)
Have you seen buses at night?
And then I walk through a rough area from the bus.

They do look into it initially
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:14, archived)
So how are you at any more risk?
If you hear them coming would it make any diffrance to what happens next?
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:15, archived)
Avoids the risk
Also, more to lose with oncoming surgery etc
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:17, archived)
Taxis for the deaf?
What bollocks is that?
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:10, archived)
Walking home/getting public transport can be a risk
As I can't hear gangs, more likely to get mugged etc
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:11, archived)
*makes note*
Good one. I might use that one with the taxman
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:12, archived)
Absolute utter utter fucking bollocks.

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:12, archived)
Are you deaf?
Have you been mugged? Has the police told the goverment that in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS I would have been safe if I could have heard them?

Doubt it
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:14, archived)
Oh. My. God.
You're being serious, aren't you?
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:15, archived)
Shut up. Really.
I am male. Men are many times more likely to be attacked than women.

Where's my free fucking taxi, you feeble fucking whinging prick? It's no wonder people with genuine needs don't get the services they need with money-grabbing life-fearing pricks like you about.
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:17, archived)
Yes, because you know from being able to hear footsteps
or general background noise that it's a gang/mugger behind you.
And they usefully announce themselves and their intentions after all, so yeah, being deaf gives you a serious disadvantage in most situations.

I'm sorry for your disability love, but christ.
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:18, archived)
haha... THEY'RE ALL AFTER ME!

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:19, archived)
Phew. That's a relief.
It was looking slightly like bullying then. But you've arrived and given it all a gloss of acceptability. Hello Mrs. BotheredMe. How's tricks?
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:23, archived)
this is UTTER UTTER shite!
what about people who can't fight for shit? I suppose they should get DLA because if they get mugged then the police will tell them..

'IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS'

that if they hadn't been soft as shite, then they'd be able to fight them off...

FUCK OFF PLEASE!
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:19, archived)
how the fuck is being able to hear
going to stop people in front of you mugging you?
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:26, archived)
All muggers attack from behind.
FACT FACT FACT.
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:30, archived)
i got mugged from behind
:(
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:31, archived)
If you'd have put up less struggle, it would have been much more enjoyable for us both.

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:32, archived)
THIS! with a fucking go-faster-stripe!
if my gf couldn't get DLA or a spack-plaque for her car with the crippling pain of an MS episode... you can fucking sing for it
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:14, archived)
Oh for fuck's sake.

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:13, archived)
eh? are you for real?
my mother can hear perfectly but she'd be just as useless against a GANG or a mugger!
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:13, archived)
she can't hear where she is going when she runs away

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:14, archived)
Good lord.

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:14, archived)
Sorry sammi but thats bullshit.
Deaf and blind people manage to traverse london all the time without these problems.
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:14, archived)
I bet they all get a lot higher rate DLA than I do
You can bullshit it all you like.
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:16, archived)
No they dont
I have done alot of work with disabled people and they do not get taxis everywhere
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:19, archived)
most people I've met with degenerative MS feel empowered to be doing things on their own

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:21, archived)
This
I know of several people who are disabled and all of them take public transport to various places and cope very well.

Plus, I'd never be able to hear someone behind me with my hearing and that's never stopped me going out.
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:30, archived)
imagine a rotweiller guide dog
that would be handy against muggers
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:17, archived)
haha

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 13:14, archived)
fuck off
in that case i need it too as i wear earphones all the time
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:23, archived)
are you actually disabled?

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:11, archived)
When I met her she didn't seem disabled
a little drunk perhaps, but otherwise as barmy as you would expect from any b3tan
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:13, archived)
She is Hard of hearing.

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:20, archived)
I'm profoundly deaf

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:31, archived)
The fact that you've been on here the last few days means you haven't had flu.
YOU ARE LIES.
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:08, archived)
Not quite flu
Just shitty feeling and ENT infections
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:09, archived)
infections of talking trees?

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:09, archived)
you've caught the lurgie of a walking, talking tree?
fuck!
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:09, archived)
So, basically, you've "had a cold"?

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:10, archived)
Nope
Been to the docs about it, he said it's definitely not a cold
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:10, archived)
You've got M.E.
Congratulations.
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:12, archived)
it must be.
that's all she talks about.
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:13, archived)
HALLO GORGEOUS!

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:15, archived)
good afternoon

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:17, archived)
Pffft
I do love you scott. I feel I haven't told you this enough :)
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:16, archived)
hello dear

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:18, archived)
Don't worry.
She's also wasted the time and money of the NHS by whining for some pointless antibiotics as well. Every cloud has a silver lining.
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:11, archived)
I have a chest infection
An ear infection and a throat infection. I really can't afford to have either, given that any infection which can affect my ears will almost certainly ultimately affect how my hearing aid works (not properly)
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:13, archived)
No, the problem is that you're a mithering hypochondriac.

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:14, archived)
I coughed on a bit of sandwich then
And it has a SERIOUS amount of mustard.

You've actually made me cry. On the internet.
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:20, archived)
You love me.

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:21, archived)
Ain't no denying.

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:25, archived)
I'm trying to work out what you're on about
and I'm about to shut the PC down and smother it in coolant gel
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:09, archived)
Contest in this context = appeal against the decisions.
Sounds like my brother and his Blue Badge (see the best of page in the Council Cunts qotw).
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:10, archived)
Sketching ideas for icklepeach's logo.
I may have to stop soon, as I leave for uni in an hour-ish and I've not had lunch yet. I think I'll reheat the leftover Burgamix patties I made yesterday.
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:09, archived)
In my experience, they don't give a shit whether you turn up or not.
Not after the first year, at least.
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:09, archived)
Can somebody turn of the WHINGE MAGNET on /talk please.
Christ.
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:10, archived)
If I do, you'll be stuck for hours.

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:10, archived)
I'm sitting at home in pyjamas. I never wear them unless I am ill and I feel grotty.
Will read a bit of my book later, and will make lunch.
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:11, archived)
Trying to figure out what trojan is hiding on this blasted laptop.
Then have to pop to pub for leaving drink.
Then have to pick up another laptop with VPN issues. Fun fun fun!
(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:11, archived)
you can't get a disability allowance for a cold!

(, Thu 11 Oct 2007, 12:17, archived)
to get a DLA award is very very hard
and takes time and effort on the part of the doctors and the witnesses, it took us 3 years to get the award for the boy and we had to fight for it's renewal last spring.
