The hospital have told her not to stress and to try and relax as much as possible

The options are:
1) Fly to Madrid and try to navigate her way up to Bilbao and get a ferry back from there, which will be a nightmarish journey of epic proportions and about the most stressful thing she could put herself through
2) Stay put and hope the airline can fly her out relatively soon - apparently they have booked her on a flight of Friday, but whether that takes off or not is uncertain...anything later than that and she'll start to get quite seriosuly ill :/

we've talked about it

but without air mail there's no guarantee that they'll get there in time either

my auntie may be able to drive out there but even so we need to get my mum from Tenerife onto the mainland

it's a 2-day drive though

mind you, I did Calais-Toulouse in 9 hours once
