# All of the BBC presenters are pronouncing Chile with the same ending as Partay.
It's quite odd.

# Why, do they normally pronounce it like the pepper?
Hopefully they don't pronounce "Iraq" like a wall-mounted ocular storage unit.

# Yes to the first, hell no to the second.
There's no accent on the final e, therefore it's "Chilly"

# Well, in Chile, it's pronounced "Chee-lay"
A lot of newsreaders in North America are learning how to pronounce country names the way they should be pronounced.
Most of the time they get "Pahk-i-stahn" and "Af-gahn-i-stahn" etc. correct now. But I still hear the "Bush" versions of "Eye-ran" and "Eye-rack" all the time, even though Obama knows the right pronunciations.
