Also, I think I may have a go at replicating the style of that pic you showed me. I'm starting to think it may have been done with one of the cloning tools in Painter, but I'm still sure it's achievable in PS.

It looks like a 5 minute job in artrage (you can select a photo to paint over and it will choose the colours automatically).
