
I heard Jim Davidson on Radio Bore's Front Row the other day. He was being grilled by the interviewer about his racism and sexism, and his defence was that it was the audience's fault because they came to see him, made him rich and famous, and besides, it was the 1970s. It was like that.

it was about 1977, and nobody had ever seen anyone non-white in real life before. A girl in our class remarked to the teacher about the 'blackie-sambo' working outside. She of course got reprimanded, but nobody in the class even realised that it was a wrong thing to say.

I wasn't going to advertise it as he's a complete arse and I hate him, but I thought the subject matter was marvellously uninspired.
