
Shooter = shoot, Driving sim = drive etc etc.
I know what you're getting at, the missions can get tedious. I just really enjoy open world/sandbox games rather than linear BS.

Red Dead Redemption is great for a dozen hours or so, before you gradually realise nothing new's going to come along... maybe I'm just spoilt.
Favorites of mine (this gen) are Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which both keep it interesting for a hell of a long time.
All-time favourite is Thief 2: The Metal Age, from way back, but a beautifully subtle thing to play.
