I'm listening a lot to Roddy Woomble at the minute (two solo albums, one with Kris Drever and John McCusker) but he went all folk so it's probably not quite what you're looking for. Idlewild are still technically current and still have his voice all over them though.

They went a mixture of REM and Scottish folk for a whilebefore Woomble went off to do his folk under his own name and Idlewild went back to AOR. They're still worth a listen, but a lot less... vital than they were back in 1999.
