# 1 - keep it infrequent - these things get quite tired quite quickly if overdone. Once a year would be good 'cos it would focus people towards the occasion. 2 max imho.
2 - involving the community in the selection of the beneficiary will help stimulate interest in it
3 - Ebay is very impersonal, but does have various advantages in terms of security and making sure people pony up once they've bought something
4 - combining it with a IRL event like a bash is good - gets people together, sense of occasion, plus there are opportunities for spin-off things that generate a bit more bunce for the organisation in question

So I'd say - combining some kind of live action auction type thing, with a sealed bid-type gaz setup would be favourite.

# oh god it wouldn't be more than a couple of times in a year I imagine

# I think there's a good argument for linking it to bashes, personally.
The London one's obvious, and maybe the Derby one if that still operates in a post-Jessie world :o(

Gives a bit of a focus to the thing before everyone starts getting leathered, and more of a buzz to the acutal auction.

And also, I can FAR better imagine my chances of getting a pass-out from the missus to go to a bash if I were saying I was going to 'a Charity Art Auction' as opposed to 'Getting Pissed With A Bunch Of People From The Internet'

# there is a huge danger that combining it with a bash
will result in drunken bidding and people having to say "sorry I can't pay what I said, what did I say anyway?"

# Yep. Very important to get it done before the booze starts flowing in earnest.

# Pretty much what happened at London this year.
Well, we were mostly sober*, anyway.

* Sober enough to know how much we were bidding and on what, anyway...

# Makes it more of an event than just an ebay deadline.
Plus it's a bit more dynamic than the usual ebay thing of adding 10p a microsecond before the bid deadline.
