I would love to see the original footage for finding nemoas disney told them they wanted it to look realistic. So they made it properly realistic... which naturally got rejected as fish that look like fish are not the easiest toys to market.

Tarzan did some amazing painted 3D scenery.They simulated oil painting with a brush in their drawing package, but daubed onto 3D surfaces instead of a flat canvas. Looked awesome when it started moving.
