but then I thought how awesome it would be if they rendered* it to look painted. That would be amazing.
*forgive my lack of cgi knowledge if that's not the right word for the context. I meant it as in they should boil it down to dry it out and separate the fat from the bones

as disney told them they wanted it to look realistic. So they made it properly realistic... which naturally got rejected as fish that look like fish are not the easiest toys to market.

They simulated oil painting with a brush in their drawing package, but daubed onto 3D surfaces instead of a flat canvas. Looked awesome when it started moving.
