if you haven't read it, i recommend a book called 48, by james herbert. it's an alternate ending to WW2, blackshirts and all.

Think I read that, is that the one where the Rats took over the world and made a load of fog then cloned Hitler into an army of super Hitlers which they sent into space to fight the Kilingons and destroy the Death Star ?

Read a few, mainly the rat's ones which I loved, many years ago, also the fog, will look up a few of his other titles
