I have a friend who has all the emulators you could ever want. And all the others, too.
After spending 2 or 3 minutes on every 'classic', it quickly becomes apparent that old games aren't as good as new games.

sad but true
tried an old DOS port of Archon a few months back, terrible fucking controls
and the only ZX81 durr I meant Spectrum game that still holds up is Manic Miner
I have rather been enjoying a PSX emulator this year though

The only game I remember from ZX is chuckie egg for the spectrum.
I managed to learn enough basic to make a couple of games of my own for the spectrum.
My younger brother got minutes of enjoyment from them.

Chuckie Egg's a good example, rubbish compared to Lode Runner
I too enjoyed making little things in BASIC and later Pascal, very few of which ever got remotely finished
