You can use an SSD for swap space which may help but probably won't for calculations.

If you have a recent Nvidia graphics card you could use CUDA (which lets you do parallel computing on the GPU).

I'll have a nose around and see what this thing is running. Pisser is, there was just enough room to write and crunch the second matrix and the third one that crashed it was only slightly bigger.
