# From K-ON!, right?
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 22:58, archived)
# yes
i knew, but was afraid to admit it. K-on and other girly shite in anime is what made me go off it.

# A friend of mine in uni is all about this kind of thing, hence how I know about K-ON!
I think anime kinda ground to a halt in about 1996-7. It's become too mainstream now.

# its not the mainstream-ness that bothers me
its the fact that a lot of anime is poorly made, and heaps on fan service, samey girl characters, tits and ass, and general shite that makes the average anime fan seem like a 12 year old girl.

# Valid point, like.
I just think it tries to appeal to too many people now.

# *crosses out 'too many people' but doesnt know how to and replaces it with*
creepy men who dream of pink, cutesy sparkly things

# I stand corrected.
Another thing I don't get, this whole My Little Pony thing that's shown its ugly face recently. Guys my age watching it. It's fucking weird :S
(, Fri 9 Sep 2011, 0:07, archived)
# so that thing IS actually my little pony? Not some adult swim spoof thing?
Wow...
(, Fri 9 Sep 2011, 0:15, archived)
# Yep, it's My Little Pony alright.
I think people who are fans of it call each other 'bronies' or something. Crazy shit.
(, Fri 9 Sep 2011, 0:21, archived)
# fair play to them
they seem to have encapsulated this wierd 'pony / unicorn' internet fad that is going around.

Im surprised though - it looks kinda edgy and cartoon networky - not as girly as i was expecting, what with them looking angry most of the time

# I have to say, it looks like the kind of thing people other than the target audience would like.
But that doesn't help in understanding why it got so popular. I tried watching an episode and I can't see how it appeals to anyone else other than little girls.
