# I haven't quite decided
US-imperialist adventures of, say, the last 100 years or so would be manageable and give it a focus, but might be unnecessarily picking on the Americans, when they learnt everything they know from us Europeans. But then again, they are the largest and most relevant today.

Dunno. What would you do?

# Don't ask me
politics is beyond my feeble brain. Mainly because I am aware I don't know the half of it. Knocking the USA is fashionable now. 100 years ago I'd have said go for Austria-Hungary. 200 years ago I'd have said the French. 300 years ago, Russia or Spain. 400 years ago probably the French again. If we go back further, the vikings, Rome, Ghengis Khan, Alexander the Great, Vlad the Implaler, the Vandals, the Goths, Trojans, Spartans, Gauls, Normans, Huns, Thuggees, Shoalins, Assasins, Greeks, Persians, Aztecs, Egyptians and the French...
My point being, there has ALWAYS been an imperialistic power running most of the world. Get used to it. The USA is better than most of the ones listed above.

# You know more than you let on
I wouldn't say knocking the USA is "fashionable", they just happen to be the current big kids in the playground. Power and abuse of power has always been correlated, so naturally as the most powerful nation on the planet, they're guilty of the most offences.

I'm not sure what yard stick you'd use either to compare Washington's policies to previous empires, but it's also neither here-nor-there. We can't judge the past by present standards, nor vice-versa.
