# You utter star
I've just logged on in a bad mood after working for hours on end and this made me laugh like a nutter.

Thank you :)

# I'd register on that site
but I'd have to up my game

and like, I can only draw things that take the piss :D
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 0:24, archived)
# Not necessarily.
I know a few people who are on that site, yet don't really upload stuff. I personally don't use it any more, got pretty bored of it.
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 0:26, archived)
# to be honest, I thought it was for special people who needed praise...
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 0:27, archived)
# It definitely seems that way some times.
Especially when you've got the typical whiny emo cry out for help in the form of a shitty scribble of, I dunno, a cat with a fringe hanging itself.

There is some legitimately good work on there (JollyJack and Moggy to name a few), but the majority really does kinda suck.

# when someone takes a random image and splats a few layers of lines on it with abstract writing and it's like they've wanked out a masterpiece.
if you were to say "lol, photoshop" they'd probably start chopping their arms off.

:D

# Harks back to a possible out-of-action b3tan taters was telling me about... Killerkitti is it?
If there's one thing I've learned from being in graphic design and illustration, is to take criticism well, otherwise... yeah.
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 0:41, archived)
# ah well, that's the whole thing of creative arts of any kind
if you can't take criticism then you're simply out of your league, the end. It's brutal out there, especially when a lot of the time you're competing with people who'll do things for free(or near enough) and be good at it too. The reason I like it here is that there's some amazing talent on this site but it's mostly about just taking the piss and making really really terrible jokes, so I'm not going to claim to be anything, I'm happy to just draw the odd shit that appears in my head. :)

of course on the flipside of that you get fucktards who worship whatever vacant crap and fling accusations of ignorance at folk who call bullshit on stuff that's bullshit. Arg, I'm in danger of making deep thought! Back to making shitty noises on toy keyboards :D
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 0:51, archived)
# Indeed. I mean, how else are you going to know what you do is good, without the opinion of others?
It's why I often find it difficult when I'm working on a project and there's no feedback from anybody at all. And likewise; not to sound arrogant or snobbish, but the reason why I think this site is a better artistic ground than deviantART is, we can take a joke.

Sure, it takes a while to get used to the banter on here, I know Moggy had a bit of difficulty going along with it at the start, but she seems to have accepted that we do take the piss quite often on this site :)

# go and post stuff on 2chan and watch the same culture clash detonation :D
but yeah happy times had by all, if you stick around :)

though I've heard some folk say this place is cliquey, but fuck them :D
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 1:04, archived)
# I can't say I've been compelled to take my work to 2chan, but I know I'd be in for some interesting results if I did. XD
I honestly can't see how this site is cliquey at all; I think a majority of the users tend to mingle with users on most of the boards and shifts. The worst thing that could come out a mass 'protest' about cliques is that the board would be split into numerous categories, and that would not be at all good.

# without being 200% fluent in japanese I wouldn't even try to go there :)
ah well, as they say, internets: serious business
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 1:20, archived)
# Oh, it's Japanese? Fair enough. XD
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 1:22, archived)

# I always imagined they were the same thing. I guess I was wrong :P
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 1:28, archived)
# Killerkitti
was not a bad artist. She was much like me, learning as she went along. Her mistake was asking for advice then reacting badly when she got it. Although I'd love advice, I realise B3ta isn't always the place to ask. I tend to post and be damned.
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 1:04, archived)
# I can't say anything bad about kk
she did just ultimately post similar things on here, but then she almost seemed to be growing up on here too, which has bound to have some kind of O_O effect

I've no idea why she left, I've been on somewhat of a hiatus from here myself, no particular reason I was just occupied with other things.

But yeah, sometimes there's a slight issue with the subtlety gland on this site but meh, life's not all fun is it.
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 1:10, archived)
# I didn't see the going of her either
but we had fallen out a bit after she asked for an opinion and i gave one. But she was a nice enough kid.
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 1:17, archived)
# ah well, it's all just the flow of stuff over other stuff till it mixes someplace
I don't know where I'm going with this metaphor
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 1:28, archived)
# I think I saw her DA page one time, and you're right, she isn't a terrible artist.
But I think in any business of this kind, it helps to know what your goal is, who you want to affect, and so on. I personally don't mind b3ta in terms of feedback, I think you guys are pretty fair, but I guess that's just me. :P
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 1:14, archived)
# Damn
I have no goal and no idea who i want to affect! I just know i like to draw and 'shop after i retired from singing. Posting on here is far less awkward than showing them to people in RL.
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 1:23, archived)
# Well when I say that, I mean in the industry.
It's pretty much drilled into you through college and uni, the whole target audience thing, especially in graphic design. In illustration, not so much.
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 1:32, archived)
# Well i wouldn't
know about all that. My trade was engineering. Now I run an art gallery, so am having to learn what people like, and fast.
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 1:38, archived)
# You have to remember though
You can't please everybody. Whenever people try this, it comes off as being uninteresting and unoriginal. I wouldn't sweat it :) just visit a few galleries, taking notes as you go along.
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 1:43, archived)
# Oh I know.
But i do get the chance to do this:

Eat your heart out B3tans! My pic in a real gallery!

They made me take it down though
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 1:51, archived)
# Aww, spoilsports :( I'm sure it'll go your way if you make it so :)

# Will you accept a fox soldier with tits?

Jotted just now. Can't find the motivation to do any uni work tonight. Typical biro drawing, mucked about with a little bit in Photoshop.

I might colour it some time soon, dunno yet.
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 0:04, archived)
# nice doodling.
i've got to design some vehicle graphics in the morning, but then i've got some concept artwork to do for a micro brewery, which is ace, i'm looking forward to the next client meeting.

which means most of the day drawing and sketching before i do stuff on the computer.
(, Mon 26 Sep 2011, 0:17, archived)
# Cool stuff, and thanks :)
I've got two projects on the go at the moment, both have to be done by December. One is a bit of a drawing exercise (basically reportage), and the other has me producing media for an issue or cause, so naturally I chose the fur trade. XD
