its sounds like the same old story of creatives getting shafted by the glorified sales types
same story in the illustration industry. Go it alone at your own pace and market it. things impossible in the old days are all doable thanks to the internet. sourcing printers, marketing and finding your audience to promote yourself. And you get 100% of teh profits and complete control :)
EDIT: you could even print it b/w on the pulp paper they use for free newspapers like Stool Pidgeon etc. And make it so it's part of the appeal with a retro look to it. I'm having a go with something this myself. Lulu is such a rip off
nice idea with the lightbulbs, i'm limited with equipment though. funnily enough there's a bargain shop in town which sells plastic lightbulbs with little sweets in that light up I was thinking of using but he's doing them at £3.50 which is way too much given the amount I want to sell the finished dolls for
