I once had a little toy that scraped BBC News and replaced sad words (like 'kill' and 'gang rape')with nice words (like 'hug' and 'nice party'). It would replace links so every article you clicked would be equally jolly and it was called 'BBC Fluffy News', I posted it here many many many years ago. I very quickly had an email from an editor on the BBC News website instructing me to take it down. This was such a long time ago I have no pictures, names nor emails, but I thought it might be interesting as it involves the BBC.
Ignoring the issue of copyright (which *was* the reason they gave), I do think it ran the risk of being rather offensive, so maybe they didn't want to be involved in that. HTH.
