# Bowdler was a chap who took it upon himself to edit all the dirty bits from out of Shakespeare
For example, in Macbeth, he changed the line 'What bloody man is that?' to 'Who is this bleeding sergeant?', which ironically by today's standards would still be a mild swear. I was actually chuffed to get Bowdlerisation as a 14-letter clue in the cryptic crossword the other week \o/
