For example, in Macbeth, he changed the line 'What bloody man is that?' to 'Who is this bleeding sergeant?', which ironically by today's standards would still be a mild swear. I was actually chuffed to get Bowdlerisation as a 14-letter clue in the cryptic crossword the other week \o/
