# i also use a open-sourced firmware hack called CHDK
It allows manual override of all exposure settings and reconnects the ability to shoot in RAW. Even the cheapest Canon camera have the physical ability for advanced features, but Canon engineers 'disconnect' those abilities in the firmware

# the nerve thing is not an issue, it does not write anyting to the factory firmware.
a few button presses cause the program to load from the SD card when you want to use it. Turning the camera off and on totally exits the program
