I basically duplicated the background each time making it 75% smaller until you end up with a repeating tunnel. Merged that together and duplicated it however many frames there are (in this case 8) tranforming each one 4% larger (the percentage depends on how much % larger you would have to make it before it looked the same - in my case 32% divided by the number of frames)
A big black gaussian blurred circle overlaying all the layers gives the impression of depth and masks the jump back slightly.
