The cane was in regular use when I started secondary school in 1982.It was banned by the time I left in 1988, and one pupil in my town had successfully sued a teacher for cuffing him around the ear in 1987.

I was curious apparently it was only banned in 1987Considering another head teacher didn't get done for actually causing harm according to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caning#Use_in_schools it's still a chinny reckon
