which I thought sort of summed it up, I don't really think religion has much part in the whole thing: 'the question comes down to whether you see marriage as a religious institution or a secular one. I don’t think, in reality, that we can say anymore that in this country it is a religious institution. The state recognises marriages made in many religious traditions and also marriages made without any religious tradition being involved. It is pretty clear that it is a secular institution. Therefore, the decision about what ‘marriage’ is shouldn’t be based on what anyone’s holy book says, but on what is best for people and for the state. Personally, I can’t see how you could argue that gay marriage is bad on either of those grounds, and it has clear benefits to the individuals who want to get married, so it should be allowed so long as no individuals or Churches who don't want to be involved aren't forced to be (which they aren't). There ought to be nothing more to the debate than that.'

But I suppose my mate and his wife got hitched in a non-god ceremony thing, so, yeah. Gays should be allowed to do that.
Just not religious marriage, or whatever (depending on whether or not that religion wants to marry gays, in which case I'd say it should be quite welcome to say either way).
