# ridiculously expensive, even reconditioned (posh for 'second hand')
but Windows 8 killed it for me after 20 years on a PC.

# If OSX was practical on generic hardware Apple would not shift a single desktop.

# they do make good hardware
Windows 7 on a Macbook Air would be borderline nice

# Their hardware is visually attractive, I wouldn't say reliable. And it's still overpriced.
My old PowerBook had to go back to them five times because of manufacturing flaws - Superdrive failure, magnetic lid closure catch failure, hinge failure, and two problems with the screen. Despite being ultra-careful with charging and never leaving it plugged in unattended I got through three power supplies for it too - the first one caught fire and the second the casing cracked and something internal failed. Oh, and two replacement batteries. For what I spent on that fucking thing over the years I probably could have bought three generic, higher spec PC laptops.

tl;dr - Apple don't test their products properly before selling them
