When I do indexed colours and higher compression things tend to get nasty Speccy-style dots and whatnot.

indexed colours is what you need for a reduced palette, so stop using that setting unless it's line art

It's sometimes useful for low res/glitchy/noisy palette matching purposes. (Pasting into a thing with indexed colours, that is).
