I suggest
persistantly pestering any mates you may have working in the IT industry, chances are a few of them will have their own boxes, so see if you can get some free hosting that way, better than paying for it at least =)

In the end i've now got my mate hosting my website, mailservers, name servers etc, for nowt too =D
